My name is Bret and I’m the founder of RÜT Design. I believe in the power of spaces to tell stories, evoke emotions, and foster deep, meaningful connections. I meandered my way here by way of celebrating a passion and rediscovering my “roots” if you will. Thus RÜT Design!

My journey began in my grandmother’s ceramic shop, where my love for creativity was first sparked by her; probably my curiosity for entrepreneurship as well! As a teenager, I dreamed of being an illustrator for Disney, and channeled that energy as a ceramist, selling pieces across the U.S. I ultimately pursued a degree in business marketing, where I found myself in MN, and started my professional career at Target. There I got to work with brilliant leaders and teams building billion-dollar brands - crazy! I then moved on to the manufacturing side of retail to lead global merchandising and design for the largest fashion accessory and home storage and decor vendor in the US. Despite over 20 years of success in corporate retail and manufacturing, I found myself curious about a more creative endeavor; something I probably really always wanted to do but didn’t have the guts to pursue. I’m now leaning into my passion for design, tapping into my “why” - inspiring joy and bringing comfort to others - to create spaces that do just that.

My goal is pretty simple: I want to help people by transforming their spaces into reflections of their aspirations to bring them every day joy.
